With budget cuts hitting us from all sides,
we’re all wondering how we’re going to manage
in the upcoming months and years. Perhaps some of you are
in the school system and have had the unfortunate task of
letting go of some very good teachers. Some of these
may have been those that have been critical to your arts curriculum.
In times like these, it is time to get creative. In my Fall,
2007 Newsletter I provided references for the
importance of storytelling in the classroom. Not only
do students retain more through narrative, they also are entertained
in the process, and their imaginations are set on fire!
Who could want for more!
In the Fall, I will be offering a new program
entitled, “ARTSPARK:Stories to Ignite the Imagination,”
which is at its heart, a storytelling program, but also offers
an art component. Not only will students be provided
with a background on different artists and approaches to arts
and their influences, but will have the opportunity to apply
what they’ve heard in a post-performance workshop.
Stay tuned to my website for
more information or get a taste of it this summer
at the Simi Library performance and workshop on July 29th
at 11 and 1, respectively.
Have your students learn to tell a story
through storyboarding in “Got an Hour: Learn a Story.”
Not only do they learn a story, but also Egyptian history
and geography!
Get Creative with Funding while
Supporting Your Local Economy
A performer with international recognition,
right in your back yard….that would be me! And
to help you with your own 2009-10 funding concerns, I am offering
20% off on all performances booked (not necessarily
used) by September 18th, 2009 (that is 20% off
regular booking fees of $450 for one show; $700 for two back-to-back
performances). This offer is good for Ventura County schools
only. Book Early! Book Now!
Call for references and hear what your peers are saying about
Elaine Muray’s “moving” theatrical performances!
Southern California Storytellers
Coming to Ventura
Southern California is home to over 12 storytelling
guilds. Every year, storytellers from all these guilds
gather in the late spring to share experience and stories
at an all day Southern California Swap. This year, Community
Storytellers of Los Angeles was host. At the end of
the swap, the candle was passed to Ventura. You will be hearing
more about this in future newsletters. In the meantime,
I am looking for space for about 60 performers for breakout
workshops and end of day concert.
